and Courses in Personal Development for Work and Life
These courses are suitable for managers and students of management alike. For a one-week programme five topics may be chosen from the following. Or more topics may be compressed into five days. Alternatively any single topic or combination of topics (from the list or specially created) may be booked for a one-day or half-day course/workshop. Workshop 1: Back Pain PreventionThis workshop focuses on a major cause of sickness absence and its prevention. Participants are taken through some of the major causes of back pain and other musculo-skeletal pain and are introduced to some preventive techniques which they will be able to apply for themselves in their working and private lives. Workshop 2: Dealing with Stress (1): YourselfStress is a major cause of sickness absence. This workshop introduces (1) the nature of stress, (2) some ways of managing ones own stress. Workshop 3: Dealing with Stress (2): Other PeopleThis workshop is particularly suited to managers and others who are interested in learning how to respond to individuals under stress while not allowing themselves to be adversely affected by the process. It is best as a follow-on from Dealing with Stress (1) but may stand alone. Workshop 4: Alexander Technique IntroductionThis workshop introduces the basics of this popular technique found useful in many walks of life from performance artists and sportspeople to managers. It provides individuals with a means of improving the way in which they use their bodies. The psychological content of this workshop makes it interesting over and above its obvious physical applications. Workshop 5: Alexander Technique Follow-upThis follows on from the Alexander Technique Introduction and is tailor made to the needs of the organisation or individuals participating. It is provided at regular intervals to reinforce and enhance learning. Workshop 6: Personal Development: Basic Principles and Learning Styles. This workshop introduces the perspective from which personal development methodology operates as well as some initial diagnostic techniques (focusing on individual differences). Some basic personal development methods are also introduced. Workshop 7: Communication: Transactional Analysis and Listening SkillsThis workshop introduces some techniques for managing difficult social interactions in the workplace and outside. For the manager or student of management it complements and supports the other courses as well as standing on its own. Workshop 8: Assertiveness and Time ManagementMany people fail to strike a balance between being passive victims and over-aggressive, thus ultimately leading to a lack of success in their working and personal lives. Here we examine the process of getting what one wants and planning our time to make this possible.
